Our Mission:
Improving Early Literacy
In Warren County, Missouri, by providing access to books.
In Warren County, Missouri, by providing access to books.
The Bookcase Project served as Warren County Literacy’s cornerstone program from 2011 until retiring the program in 2023. In that time, we presented 820 bookcases and 20,500 books through the Bookcase Project to children in our community advancing from Head Start and Parents As Teachers programs into Kindergarten, and we distributed another 17,500 children’s books at community events over the years. Through our Books From Birth program, Warren County Literacy brought Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to our community, enrolling 827 children in the book-gifting program from March 2020 to November 2023. When the State of Missouri began funding Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library statewide, Warren County Literacy’s role with the program ended. In January 2025, the Warren County Literacy Board of Directors voted to take the necessary steps to dissolve the organization and distribute the organization's remaining funds evenly between Wise Foundation (benefitting Warrenton schools) and Blue & Gold Foundation (benefitting Wright City schools) to help support classroom programs where improving literacy is the goal. We anticipate this process to be completed by the end of April 2025. We are grateful to the community of volunteers and supporters who have helped us carry out our mission. For nearly a decade and a half, it has been our passion and pleasure to help improve early literacy in Warren Country literacy, and it is now time for us to turn the page.
Through our programs and community outreach, Warren County Literacy increased the access children in our community have to books at home—a key factor in early literacy and educational achievement.
